Provides executive leadership to staff of the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (HCC) which is part of the Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS). At approximately 471,000 square feet on 4 floors, it is the largest and most complex HCC in the VA’s inventory. At full capacity the HCC will employ approximately 750-900 new staff in a combination of clinical and non-clinical areas. Projections show the HCC serving roughly 35,000 enrolled patients and completing around 260,000 annual encounters within five years.
Previously, Ms. Markert served as the Integrity and Compliance Officer/Alternate Privacy Officer at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Martinsburg, West Virginia. In this capacity, Ms. Markert developed an effective integrity and compliance program for the Martinsburg WV health care system using the compliance framework, standards, processes, and available resources, adhering to the Veterans Health Administration Directive 1030 Guidebook and other guidance. She assisted in the research, planning, development, preparation, and coordination of regulations and policy directives related to multiple program requirements.
Ms. Markert served as the Chief Health Administration Service for the Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS), in Roseburg, Oregon. During her tenure she was a substantial driver behind program improvement with a focus on key performance indicator (KPI) measures to include scheduling audit goals, Insurance Buffer Capture (ICB), and clinical consult workload management. As a result, RVAHCS Audit rate was approx. 10 % greater than the national average, ICB performance was consistently at 95% or better monthly (goal is 90%), and all end of year consult measures were surpassed for two years running.
Ms. Markert holds master’s degrees in both Health Administration and Business Administration. She is a Navy Veteran with over 31 years of government service in both the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Additional experience includes Supervisory Administrative Management, Human Resources, Finance, Logistics & Contracting, Facilities Management, Systems Redesign, and Lead Process Improvement.
