Carnell Cooper, MD

Dr. Cooper most recently served as Chief Medical Officer at Medical University of South Carolina-Orangeburg in Orangeburg South Carolina. Previously, he was CMO at HCA’s Reston Hospital in Virginia (8/22–10/23), LewisGale Medical Center in Roanoke, VA (2/20–8/22), and Methodist Northeast Hospital in San Antonio, TX (6/18–2/22).   He previously held numerous leadership positions within the University of Maryland Medical System. He was Associate professor of Surgery in the School of medicine, Director of Trauma at the Prince Georges Hospital center, and SVP, DIO and Chief Medical Officer of the Dimensions Healthcare system.

Dr. Cooper, a native of Dillon, S.C., graduated from Yale University and Duke University School of Medicine before completing his post-graduate Surgery training back at Yale and a Trauma/Critical Fellowship at the University of Maryland. He has a lifelong interest in the Care of the Injured Patient, Population health and the social disparities that impact outcomes, especially in disadvantaged communities. His focus is on delivery of the highest quality of care for patients, health systems and communities, especially in disadvantaged communities.
