Looking Back to Move Forward: Navigating Change Together

PresidentThis fall, CVHEG celebrated an exciting milestone with our inaugural fall conference in Richmond — a celebration of our community’s resilience, adaptability, and shared commitment to navigating change together. Our gathering of healthcare leaders from every corner of Virginia reminded me both how and why connection remains our greatest strength.
This year’s theme, Navigating Change, reflects not just where we are as a profession, but who we are as leaders. We are living in a time of change. Here in Virginia, since this time last year, every major healthcare system in our catchment area has faced transitions in leadership, structure, or strategy. Such transitions bring uncertainty, and it is only natural to wonder what these changes will mean for you, your patients, and your larger community. Despite this, leadership is not about avoiding uncertainty — you are called to meet the unknown with boldness, tenacity, wisdom, and yes, heart.
This year, CVHEG is advancing a thoughtful transformation designed to better serve our members throughout the region. We are redesigning our website to reflect who we are today and to provide streamlined access to events, resources, and member opportunities. We are expanding in-person programming throughout our region starting with informal gatherings and introducing accessible leadership coaching to support members at every career stage. We invite our students — including those in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and other clinical programs — to a new Student Council. This union of diverse future healthcare leaders reflects our belief that leadership development must extend across disciplines. Each of these initiatives strengthens our foundation, broadens our reach, and renews our commitment to preparing leaders equipped to navigate a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Building on the success of our inaugural fall conference, CVHEG will host the ACHE District 2 Mini Congress in Richmond, Virginia, next year from September 25–27, 2026. This premier three-day program will feature collaborative programming already in development with the West Virginia Chapter of ACHE, ACHE of the Triad, Health Care Administrators of Tidewater, and the Triangle Healthcare Executives’ Forum. Next year’s theme, Leading Forward, has come from our growth and evolution through and despite this current time of change.
To mark our evolution as a chapter and a community, we are launching a new logo featuring the Virginia Cardinal, the official state bird and a fitting emblem of transformation. The cardinal symbolizes seasonal change, resilience, and enduring hope. It reminds us that even in times of transition, strength endures and renewal begins. This emblem represents not only our chapter’s identity but also the character of our members — leaders who remain steadfast through change, connected to community, and inspired to serve.
Thank you for your commitment and your voice. Together, we are not just navigating to change — we are change agents shaping the future of healthcare leadership.
With appreciation,
